OPE Gear Helmet Scrim

The OPE Gear Helmet Scrim is a lightweight tactical camouflage scrim built to help break up the recognizable shape of ACH helmets and most modern helmets in the field. When your head is the first thing exposed around corners, cover, or concealment, reducing that hard outline matters.

Made in the USA from 500D certified Cordura, this ballistic helmet scrim adds texture and visual breakup without unnecessary bulk. It is oversized to fit over helmets that are either slicked down or kitted with night vision mounts, strobes, and lights, making it a practical option for users running ACH-style helmets and other modern setups.

The scrim creates an irregular outer surface that helps soften the smooth dome profile of the shell that can otherwise stand out in natural terrain, whether that’s brush, mixed terrain, or low-light environments. It also allows small pieces of local vegetation or additional scrim to be added to increase the effectiveness of the camouflage based on the terrain.

OPE Gear, a small American company, builds practical concealment equipment for users who want more than “good enough.” The result is a scrim helmet cover that is lightweight, durable, packable, and built for real use.

How to Setup Your Helmet Scrim

  1. Prep the Scrim - Pull the scrim from the front and rear ends to fully flare it open and prepare it for mounting.
  2. Position on Helmet - Lay the scrim over your helmet with the cord lock centered at the rear of the shell.
  3. Secure the Scrim - Choose the method that works best for your setup:
    1. Option A — Shock Cord Method Hook the shock cord at each of the four corners of the helmet — front and rear.
    2. Option B — Included Scrim Straps: Loop a strap around the shock cord at each of the four corners. Then tuck the long, narrow end of each strap between the helmet's interior velcro and the helmet pads. Confirm the velcro is holding the scrim firmly in place before moving on.
  4. Clear Your Night Vision Shroud (if applicable) - Make a single cut over the night vision shroud to allow full access for NVG mounts.
  5. Adjust Around Accessories - Work the scrim around any lights, ear pro, strobes, or counterweights so all equipment remains functional. Additional cuts can be made as needed; the scrim is designed to hold its shape even after trimming.

Your Helmet Husk is set. Deploy and go.

It’s a simple upgrade that adds real capability to your kit.

Why Use a Helmet Scrim

A helmet is often one of the first things exposed around cover, and it is also one of the easiest shapes to recognize in the field. A helmet scrim helps break up that smooth, hard outline so the shell blends more naturally into brush, grass, timber, and mixed terrain.

Benefits include:

  • Helps break up the outline of the helmet
  • Reduces the visual signature of smooth shell surfaces
  • Adds texture for more natural camouflage
  • Allows local vegetation or added scrim to be tied in
  • Packs flat and deploys quickly when needed

Color Selection Guide

Most Popular Choice: Multicam

Multicam offers the best balance for mixed terrain across the United States.

Multicam - Blends green, tan, and brown tones that perform well across woods, grassland, and open terrain.

M81 Woodland - Ideal for dense vegetation, hardwood forests, and Appalachian terrain where darker greens and browns dominate.

Coyote Brown - A neutral earth tone that blends well with dirt, rock, and dry vegetation, especially in fall and winter environments.

Ranger Green - A muted green tone that works well in wooded environments and brush while remaining subtle and versatile.

Pairs Well With

For a complete concealment setup, pair the Helmet Scrim with the OPE Gear Backpack Scrim, helping both your helmet and pack blend more naturally into the terrain.

Helmet Scrim FAQs

What does a helmet scrim do?

A helmet scrim helps break up the hard, recognizable outline of your helmet so it blends more naturally into surrounding terrain. It adds texture, reduces the visual signature of a smooth shell, and allows local vegetation or added scrim to be used for more effective camouflage.

Is this a full helmet cover or a helmet scrim?

his product is a helmet scrim, not a traditional fitted helmet cover. It is designed to add visual breakup and camouflage rather than a fitted fabric cover that fully wraps the shell like a conventional cover.

Will it permanently modify my helmet?

No. It is designed to be used without permanently modifying your helmet.

Will it work with night vision mounts and helmet accessories?

Yes. The Helmet Husk is oversized to accommodate add-ons and works over helmet setups equipped with night vision mounts, strobes, and lights.
